Weekend snippets

Sunday 27 july...

Went to the krishna temple near my home; been seeking god nowadays more than ever before. As is wont to happen on a weekend morning in a temple, there were kids galore with their parents . The parents initiating their young ones into the complexities of the hindu religion, introducing them to the protocols to be followed in the temples. And as i usually tend to do, i wrapped up my daily appeals and conversations with the divine pantheon and was circambulating the temple when i saw her...

luminous eyes, short cropped hair...draped in a red shiny saree, all two feet of her.

yup, it isnt everyday that one gets to see a toddler draped in a saree, that too one that seems just tailormade for her. she was adorable to say the least, of course. saree pallu trailing over her shoulder onto the ground. The bottom of her saree kept getting tangled up in her shoes as she waddled along behind her granny. Well its sights like this that make me get up early on a sunday. Its true when they say that god lives in children..

...and as we grow older, the devil inches further and further into our psyche and eventually godliness gets shrugged out, left holding on to a few precious straws.

Monday 28 july...

Was travelling on airport road.BMTC of course. early morning rush hour. Eevry single person preoccupied with getting to his or her destination in time for the daily grind. Tension and early morning blues induced boredom writ large on eveyones faces in anticipation of the day ahead. The only smiles and cheer i see are on the faces of the little ones, as they hold on to their guardian's hands waiting for their school buses and vans. The parents do the last minute retouching on theier ward's uniforms, checking laces, tightening the bows and ties and looking up and down the road for the van or bus weaving through the devilish traffic, praying that their wards get to the school and back safely. Bit i did find it amazing that it was the male parent who was carrying out this early morning ritual. I was under the impression that even this chore would be handled by the lady of the house. A positive trend, i might say. Quite endearing to see all the fathers and in some cases, the grandfathers lined up holding their ward's hands and listening to their continuing chatter and at the same time ensuring their kids are carrying everything they would need to get through their day in school.
